Apache Tomcat (o Yakarta Tomcat o simplemente, Tomcat) es un contenedor de servlets open source desarrollado por la "Apache Software Foundation" (ASF). Tomcat implementa las especificaciones Servlet Java y la tecnología JavaServer Pages (JSP) de Sun Microsystems, y proporciona un "Entorno Web HTTP para correr Java-puro. Tomcat no se debe confundir con el servidor web Apache, el cual es una implementación en C de un servidor web HTTP, ambos servidores web no se juntan. Apache Tomcat incluye sus herramientas para la configuración y gestión, pero también puede ser configurado por la edición de archivos de configuración XML. Tomcat should not be confused with the Apache web server, which is a C implementation of an HTTP web server; these two web servers are not bundled together. Apache Tomcat includes tools for configuration and management, but can also be configured by editing XML configuration files.
